  • SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR INVITEES ONLY

    Dear Invitee:

Congratulations on your invitation to run the Adidas Invitational!

Here are special instructions for you.
The George Mason University Fieldhouse is at 4400 University Drive in Fairfax VA.
Take I-66 to Route 123 South.  Cross Main Street and continue south to University Drive.
Turn right, then left into the parking lot.

Reserved parking for athletes is on the east end of the parking lot, along Route 123.
Please arrive at the Fieldhouse before 6:30 pm.  All parking may be gone after 6:30 pm.

Athletes must enter through the Athletes' Entrance on the east side of the building, facing Route 123,
NOT the main entrance facing University Drive.
At that entrance, the hosts will have a roster of invited athletes, who may enter free.
Family, friends, and coaches may accompany their athletes to the Athlete's Entrance,
but they may not enter through the Athletes' Entrance; please return to the Main Entrance and buy tickets.

If you are a member of a running club, please show your membership card
when you buy your ticket for a 50% discount
(so seats are $5.00 instead of $10.00 and standing room is $2.50 instead of $5.00).

See the website http://pvtc.org/adidas.html for more details.

Once athletes check in, they may go through the gym to rejoin with their family members or coaches.
Please allow adequate time to find your family, friends, and coaches.

For anyone not familiar with the Fieldhouse, after you enter the main entrance,
    you can walk straight ahead to the seating area, along the home stretch to the finish line;
or you can turn left to the locker rooms and the standing room areas.

There is also a balcony overlooking the track, accessible by stairs
just past the front desk, or next to the Athletes' entrance, which is on the far left wall after you enter the gym.

For the later races, please warm up and be prepared for your race at least 10 minutes
in advance of the scheduled time, in case the meet runs early.
Pick up a copy of the printed program, and listen as each event is called, so you don't miss your start.

    It's a six-lane track, eight laps + 9.344 meters = 1 mile.  DON'T LOSE COUNT!
For safety, milers form two alleys on the three inside and three outside lanes.
After you start, please stay in your alley until you have rounded the first curve.
Break to the inside only when it is safe.

We grouped the heats so that no one gets lapped, but if you are being lapped,
stay to the INSIDE lane and let the faster runner pass you on the OUTSIDE.
    It's much safer that way.

You may wear 1/4-inch metal spikes.

The women's locker room is immediately to the right of the Athlete's Entrance,
followed by the men's locker room.  Both locker rooms have showers and saunas.
Bring your own towels and locks.

Refreshments will be for sale, but I suggest bringing your own water bottles.

    I thank Bob Weiner for assembling the Women's 40+ and Men's 50+ fields;
    Jim Whitnah and James Moreland for their help with the Men's 40+ field;
and Matt Murray, Pearl Watts, Larry Carter, and Rob Lotwis for their help
    with the High School fields.

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES AND COACHES:
The  1999 Adidas Invitational Track and Field Meet is sanctioned by Virginia High School Athletic League.
(Sanction date: Feb. 3, 1999, by Kenneth G. Tilley.)
All Virginia High School athletes, without limitation, may participate in this meet.

VA Coaches: Please be sure your school should has on file with VHSL
a signed copy of the VHSL Team Designation Form
that states whether your school sponsors
    (1a) only a boys team
(1b) only a girls team or
    (2) one team for boys and one team for girls.

For Maryland Schools, no sanction is necessary,
but I have provided the necessary information to Ned Sparks of MDPSAA
to enable all MD High School students to participate in the meet.

I thank all the athletes and coaches for their patience while we sorted out the top high school runners.

I offer encouragement and praise to the athletes who just missed the cut.

I have been unable to reach Kacie Remeto and Dennis Coleman by phone or E-mail.
If you can reach either of those athletes, please help me contact them right away and provide them this information.
