We thank our dedicated coaches: Albert A. Arcand Jr., Craig Chasse, Jim Darr, Art Klein, Desta Beriso Morkama, Betsy Peace, Abdelillah Razah, Phillip Riblett, Michael Souryal, Feru Dadi Wake, Chuck Williams, and Jay Jacob Wind

  • Each week, families brings post-workout refreshments, for example, 2 gallons of apple juice, 50 pieces of fruit, 50 energy bars.

Trader Joe's, 1109 North Highland Street, Arlington VA, sponsored our first practice, and we recommend shopping at your neighborhood Trader Joe's.

For our workouts on November 27 and December 11, we don't have families signed up to provide refreshments. If you can help, please write me at pvtcsecretary@gmail.com

On nice days, we run some of the time outdoors, so prepare for the weather -- jacket, hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen if you're sensitive. Sunday will be chilly but sunny. Please wear a warm shirt, jacket, and gloves so we can go outdoors if not too cold.

For indoor track, please wear light clothing and running shoes (not spikes, not court shoes or street shoes)

Please bring a filled water bottle with your name written on it.

This week, during the warm-up, I shall talk for five minutes about the limits of human performance and the progression from young athlete to high school to college to national championships to International Competition to the Olympic Games

For a story about a local runner who pushed those limits and achieved Olympic gold, please see this story in The Washington Post

We welcome any of the parents to present a prepared five-minute lecture on December 4 on any topic that will help our young athletes. In past years, our parents have lectured on fascinating topics

On Sunday, December 11, we host a track meet for our young athletes, following the same schedule as our indoor meets on January 15, January 29, and February 5. (See www.pvtc.org/indoor -- the meets are free for young athletes) On December 11, my prepared talk will be about the meet events:

  • 200-meter race walk
  • 55-meter run
  • One-mile run
  • 400-meter run
  • 800-meter run
  • 200-meter run
  • 4 x 200-meter relay
  • Shot put throw
  • Turbojavelin throw
  • We need parents to help with the score-keeping -- timing, measuring, and recording.

This Sunday. I shall work with you to show you how be a score-keeper.

Also this Sunday, I intend to have the Child Small t-shirts for distribution.

Also this Sunday, I shall bring certificates of completion of the program, for you to take home in case you are unable to attend on December 4 or December 11.

At all our workouts, we welcome parents to run with their young athletes. Think of it as Suzuki running!

Every Sunday, we promote membership in Potomac Valley Track Club -- see www.pvtc.org/join -- or take a membership flyer. It's a club for All Ages, All Paces, All Ways. I shall distribute membership forms this Sunday on the back of indoor track meet entry forms. For your $20 PVTC membership, you get a discount on all our events -- indoor track meets, outdoor track meets, and long-distance runs.
