- 9:00 a.m. Last 55-meter race ends. You're done. Please run the other

PROCEDURES:
- Bring your own stopwatch. (We only have a few extras.)
- We expect about 100 kids and 50 adults in the 55 meter. Expect about 25
heats.
- We run the athletes in heats of 6 each, starting from youngest to
oldest.
- Each timer gets a supply of about 20 ribbons and a pen.
- Each timer picks a lane. Lanes 1 and 2 are on infield. Lanes 3, 4, 5, and
6 are on track.
- We have 2 teams of 6 timers each, plus a Head Timer. The teams switch
after every heat.
- Team 1 timers take positions 5 meters past the finish line.
- Lane 1/2/3 timers stand INSIDE
track
- Lane 4/5/6 timers stand OUTSIDE
track
- Each timer identifies the runner starting in his/her lane.
- NOTE: Since younger runners
often deviate from their lanes,
- be sure to time the runner you
identify, no matter where s/he finishes.
- Before each heat, Head Timer stands across track with his/her back to
starting line, arms outstretched, until timers are ready.
- Starter blows two whistles to ask "Timers, Are You Ready?"
- Timers set their stopwatches to 00:00.
- Two volunteers stretch tape across the Finish Line.
- When timers are ready, Head Timer signals Starter with both arms vertical,
then steps off track.
- Starter gives raises arm. Starter says commands "Runners to your marks"
and "Set."
- When Starter drops arm and blows whistle, start your stopwatch. Watch the
ARM.
- When your runner crosses the finish line, stop your stopwatch.
- Write your runner's time on the back of a ribbon.
- Walk to your runner, announce the finish time, and present the ribbon
- Help your runner off the track toward the infield.
- In case of injury, we have first aid, water, and ice.
- Clear the track as soon as possible after each heat.
- Immediately after each heat, as soon as all runners are off track, the
other team moves into place.
- The Head Timer takes his/her place across the track and prepares timers
for next heat.
- We expect about 25 heats. We want each heat to take less than one
minute.
- The secret to success is to keep everything moving efficiently.
- THANK YOU!!!
